Dice Roller

Roll virtual dice for board games, Dungeons & Dragons and classroom probability: any number of d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 or d20 dice, with a modifier.

Die

For example 3 or -2

2d6: totals from 2 to 12, average 7.

How to use the dice roller

  1. Pick the die: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 or d20.
  2. Set how many dice to roll and any modifier to add or subtract (use a minus sign, like -2).
  3. Press Roll. You'll see every die, the total, and your earlier rolls underneath.

With two six-sided dice, 7 is the most likely total: 6 of the 36 combinations add up to 7, so it comes up 1 time in 6 on average, while 2 and 12 each need one exact combination (1 in 36).

Need a number in any range instead? Use the random number generator, or the coin flip for heads or tails.

Frequently asked questions

Are the dice rolls fair?

Yes. Each die uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with rejection sampling: random numbers that would make some faces slightly more likely are thrown away and redrawn, so every face has exactly the same chance.

What does 2d6+3 mean?

Roll two six-sided dice and add 3 to the total. The number before the d is how many dice, the number after it is how many sides each die has, and anything after + or − is the modifier.

What's the average roll?

A die with s sides averages (s + 1) ÷ 2: 3.5 for a d6 and 10.5 for a d20. For several dice, multiply by the number of dice and add the modifier, so 2d6+3 averages 10.

Can I roll a d100 or different dice together?

This roller does one type of die per roll. For a d100 (percentile) roll, use the random number generator from 1 to 100.
