What PDF metadata is
Every PDF can carry document properties: title, author, subject, keywords, the app that created it and the app that produced it, plus creation and modification dates. Browsers show the title in the tab, search engines can use it, and anyone can read the author field. Many apps also store a second copy of these details in a hidden XMP block inside the file.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF. The current properties appear in the fields.
- Edit any field and click Save changes, or click Remove all metadata.
- Download the new file. The pages themselves are not changed.
What "Remove all" removes
It deletes every document-info entry, not just the six fields shown: creation and modification dates, and extra fields such as Company that some office apps add. It also deletes the XMP copy, so no viewer can show the old title or author. When you edit instead, the XMP copy is dropped too, so your new title is the one people see.
Before you share a document
- A PDF exported from a word processor often carries your account name as the author; check it before sending a CV, a quote or a report.
- Metadata doesn't cover text on the pages, comments, attachments or hidden layers, so review those separately for sensitive documents.
- Deleting pages? Delete PDF pages removes them from the file completely.
