SSY rules (2026)

  • Interest: 8.2% a year (October–December 2026), compounded yearly and revised every quarter.
  • Deposit ₹250 to ₹1,50,000 per financial year, for 15 years from opening.
  • The account matures 21 years after opening. From year 16 to 21 it keeps earning interest without new deposits.
  • A parent or guardian can open it before the girl turns 10.
  • EEE status: deposits (old regime deduction), interest and maturity are tax-free.

The calculator assumes each yearly deposit is made at the start of the financial year and the rate stays the same throughout. Real returns follow the government's quarterly rate.
