How this calculator scores
Tara is counted from each partner's nakshatra to the other's. Remainders of 3, 5 and 7 (Vipat, Pratyak, Naidhana) are inauspicious, and each good direction scores 1.5.
Bhakoot scores 0 for 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 Moon-sign placements, otherwise 7.
For Dhanu and Makara, whose Vashya group changes mid-sign, we use the side of the sign most of your nakshatra falls on.
No automatic dosha cancellation is applied. Consult an astrologer for that.
This tool follows traditional North Indian Ashtakoot rules for cultural and informational use. Compatibility in a real relationship depends on far more than a score. Palz Tools does not endorse rejecting a match on this basis alone.
Frequently asked questions
How many gunas should match for marriage?
Traditionally, 18 or more out of 36 is considered acceptable, 25–32 good and 33 or more excellent. Many families also check Nadi and Bhakoot dosha, and Manglik status, separately from the total.
What details do I need?
The Moon nakshatra (janma nakshatra) and Moon sign (rashi) of both people. They are printed in any janam kundli. If you only know the date, time and place of birth, get a kundli made first. The Moon changes nakshatra roughly every day.
What is Nadi dosha?
Nadi carries the highest weight (8 points). If both people share the same Nadi (Adi, Madhya or Antya), Nadi scores 0 and it is called Nadi dosha. Astrologers often discuss cancellation rules and remedies for it.
Why can other websites give a slightly different score?
Regional traditions use slightly different Vashya and Gana tables, and some software applies dosha-cancellation rules automatically. This calculator shows every koota separately so you can see exactly where points come from.
