Instagram Grid Maker

Split a panorama or poster into tiles that line up perfectly on your Instagram profile.

How to make an Instagram grid

  1. Choose a large, sharp picture; a panorama works well for 3 × 1.
  2. Pick 3 × 1, 3 × 2 or 3 × 3 tiles, and the tile shape: 3:4 or square.
  3. Check the preview; the numbers on the tiles show the posting order.
  4. Download all tiles as a ZIP, with files named in posting order.

Why 3:4 tiles

Since January 2025, Instagram's profile grid shows every post as a tall 3:4 thumbnail instead of a square. Tiles of 1080 × 1440 pixels match that exactly, so the picture lines up on your profile without extra cropping. Choose square only if you want the older square look inside the post itself.

Posting order

Instagram shows your newest post at the top left, so the grid has to be posted from the bottom right. Post the tile numbered 1 first, then 2, and so on; the ZIP names them post-01-of-09.jpg onwards so you can't mix them up. Post them one after another, before any other post, or the picture shifts.

Example

A 3 × 3 grid with 3:4 tiles uses a 3240 × 4320 area of your picture, cropped from the centre if the shape differs, and gives nine 1080 × 1440 images saved at high JPG quality.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to post them in order?

Yes. Post tile 1 first and the highest number last, one after another.

Can I post them as a carousel?

A carousel shows tiles one by one. For the grid effect, post each tile separately.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Tiles are created on your device and downloaded as a ZIP.
