How to convert TIFF files

  1. Choose the direction: TIFF โ†’ PNG or JPG/PNG โ†’ TIFF.
  2. Choose the file. It's converted straight away and a preview is shown.
  3. Download the converted image.

TIFF to PNG

TIFF is common for scanners, faxes and print work, but most browsers and many apps can't display it. Converting to PNG keeps every pixel (both are lossless) and makes the image viewable everywhere. Multi-page TIFFs, such as faxes, are supported: the first page is converted and the tool tells you how many pages the file has.

JPG or PNG to TIFF

Some printers, publishers and older systems ask for TIFF. This tool writes uncompressed TIFF, which every program can open but which is large: each pixel takes 4 bytes, so a 4000 ร— 3000 photo becomes about 48 MB. Converting a JPG to TIFF doesn't add quality; it only changes the container.

Tips

  • Some unusual TIFF variants (special compression or colour modes) can't be read; the tool tells you if so.
  • To share a converted scan as a smaller file, convert the PNG to JPG with the Image converter.
  • To put scans into one document, use Image to PDF.
