Mic Test

Check that your microphone works before a call, class or recording.

The test runs in your browser. Nothing is recorded unless you press record, and recordings never leave your device.

How to test your mic

  1. Click Start mic test and allow microphone access.
  2. Speak normally: the bar should move. "Working βœ“" appears once it picks up sound.
  3. Record 5 seconds and play it back to hear how you sound.
  4. If you have several microphones, pick one from the list to compare them.

Fixes for common problems

  • Permission blocked: click the lock or camera icon in the address bar and allow the microphone, then reload.
  • Wrong device: headsets and webcams each add a microphone; choose the one you'll use.
  • Very quiet: raise the input level in Windows Sound settings or macOS Sound β†’ Input.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my microphone not working?

Check that the browser has permission (the icon next to the address bar), that the right microphone is selected in your system sound settings, that it isn't muted by a hardware switch, and that another app like Zoom or Teams isn't using it.

Is my voice recorded or uploaded?

No. The level meter only reads the sound in your browser. If you press record, the 5-second clip stays on your device for you to play back.

What level is good?

Normal speech should move the meter to about 40–80%. If it barely moves, move closer or raise the input volume; if it hits 100% often, lower it to avoid distortion.
