Example
This three-line note:
Team lunch: Friday
Book a table for 8 at 1 pm.
Ask Priya about the table near the window.
has 19 words, 89 characters (71 without spaces and line breaks) and 3 lines. Replacing the whole word βtableβ with βboothβ changes 2 places, and the download is named team-lunch-friday.txt after the first line.
Tips
Write in Markdown (# for headings, - for lists) and download a .md file for GitHub or a notes app, or turn it into a web page with the Markdown to HTML converter.
For detailed counts (sentences, reading time, Indian languages) paste your text into the word counter.
Shared or public computer? Press New when you're done so the next person doesn't see your note.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my note saved?
In your browser's storage on this device, about half a second after you stop typing. It isn't uploaded anywhere, so it won't appear on your other devices. Clearing your browsing data, or using a private window, removes it, so download anything you want to keep.
Does the notepad work offline?
Once the page has loaded, yes: typing, autosave, find and replace and downloads all happen in your browser without a connection.
How do I save my note as a file?
Press Download .txt or Download .md, or press Ctrl+S (β+S on a Mac) while typing. The file is named after the first line of your note.
Can I open a Word or PDF file?
No, the notepad opens plain-text files such as .txt, .md, .csv and .log. For a Word or PDF document, copy the text and paste it in, or convert it first with the PDF to text tool.
Is there a size limit?
A note can hold up to 1,000,000 characters, and you can open text files up to 5 MB. That keeps autosave inside the space browsers give each website.
