PDF to Excel

Pull tables out of PDFs, such as bank statements, invoices, price lists and reports, into a spreadsheet you can sort and total.

Sheets

Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded, which matters for bank statements. Works with PDFs that have selectable text, not scanned images.

How to convert PDF to Excel

  1. Choose a PDF that has selectable text (you can highlight words in a PDF viewer).
  2. Pick All pages on one sheet for a statement that runs over several pages, or One sheet per page for separate tables.
  3. Click Convert to Excel, check the preview, then download the .xlsx or CSV file.

How the table is rebuilt

Text on the same line becomes a row. Columns are found where the table has a clear vertical gap in almost every row, so a heading that spans the whole width doesn't break them. Words close together, like "Salary credit", stay in one cell.

Example: a bank statement line

A line reading 03/05/2026 · Rent · (25,000.00) · 1,25,000.00 becomes four cells. The date stays as text exactly as printed. (25,000.00) becomes the number −25000 and 1,25,000.00 becomes 125000, so a SUM of the amount column gives the right total. A reference like 0012345 keeps its leading zeros.

Tips

  • Delete header and footer rows (bank name, page numbers) in Excel before totalling.
  • If two columns come out merged, use Excel's Data → Text to Columns on that column.
  • Always compare the closing balance with the PDF before using the numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe for bank statements?

Yes. The PDF is read in your browser and nothing is uploaded, so your account details stay on your device.

Why are some columns merged or split?

PDFs store text positions, not table cells. Columns are rebuilt from the gaps between them, so tables without clear gaps can come out merged. Check the preview and fix any stray cells in Excel.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Not directly. A scan is a picture of text. Run it through Image to Text (OCR) first, then paste the result into Excel.

Will Excel treat amounts as numbers?

Yes. Amounts like 1,20,000.00, $1,234.50 or (500) are saved as numbers so SUM works. Account numbers, IDs with leading zeros and dates stay as text so nothing is changed.

My PDF is password-protected. What now?

Open it with the password and save or print it as a new PDF without protection, then convert that copy.
