How to resize a PDF
- Choose your PDF.
- Pick the new page size, or Custom to type a width and height in millimetres.
- Optionally add a margin, so printers don't cut off content near the edge.
- Click Resize PDF and download the result.
Scale to fit or keep size
Scale to fit shrinks or enlarges each page just enough to fit inside the new sheet and its margins, keeping the proportions, and centres it. Keep size, centre leaves the content at 100% and only changes the sheet around it. That's useful for adding white space, but content bigger than the new sheet is cut off, and the tool warns you when that happens.
Example: US Letter to A4
A Letter page is 8.5 ร 11 inches (612 ร 792 points) and A4 is 210 ร 297 mm (595 ร 842 points). A4 is narrower, so the content is scaled to 97.3% of its size. Because A4 is also taller, about 12.6 mm of white space is left above and below. Going from A4 to Letter works the same way in reverse.
Common page sizes
- A4 (210 ร 297 mm): the standard in India, the UK, Europe and most of the world.
- US Letter (8.5 ร 11 in) and Legal (8.5 ร 14 in): the US and Canada.
- A3 is twice A4, for posters and drawings; A5 is half A4, for booklets and notes.
