Drag to select the part of a photo to keep, with ratios for Instagram, YouTube and passport photos.

How to crop an image

  1. Choose a photo.
  2. Pick a shape: free, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 16:9, 9:16 or 35×45 passport.
  3. Drag on the image to select the area to keep. The selection size in pixels is shown below.
  4. Click Crop & download.

Which shape for what

  • 1:1 for profile pictures and square posts.
  • 4:5 and 3:4 for tall Instagram posts; 9:16 for Stories, Reels and Shorts.
  • 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails, slides and desktop wallpapers.
  • 35×45 passport for the standard photo shape used by many passport and visa forms.

Example

From a 4000 × 3000 photo, the largest 16:9 crop is 4000 × 2250 pixels: the full width, trimming 750 pixels of height that you choose by where you drag. The crop keeps the original resolution, so nothing is blurred.

Tips

  • PNG files stay PNG (keeping transparency); other images are saved as high-quality JPG.
