Flip Image (Mirror)

Make a mirror image of a photo: flip it left to right, or upside down.

How to flip an image

  1. Choose a photo.
  2. Press Flip horizontal to mirror it left to right, or Flip vertical to mirror it top to bottom. Press again to undo the flip.
  3. Rotate it as well if you need to, then press Download.

Horizontal or vertical?

  • Horizontal (the common one): fixes mirrored selfies and backwards text, or makes a person face the other way in a design.
  • Vertical: water reflections, upside-down scans and pattern effects.
  • Both together give the same picture as rotating by 180°.

Example

A 1280 × 720 screenshot flipped horizontally is still 1280 × 720: the pixel in the top-left corner moves to the top-right corner, and the picture's size and sharpness stay the same. The flip buttons always act on the picture as you see it, even after you have rotated it.

Tips

  • Check faces and text in the preview before saving: a horizontal flip is easy to miss on symmetrical pictures.
  • To turn a sideways photo instead, use Rotate image; for cropping and text too, the Photo editor.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between flipping and rotating?

Flipping makes a mirror image: left becomes right (horizontal) or top becomes bottom (vertical), so text reads backwards. Rotating turns the picture without mirroring it; a vertical flip is not the same as rotating by 180°.

Why is the writing backwards in my selfie?

Many front cameras show a mirrored preview and some save the photo that way. Flip it horizontally to make the writing read normally again.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The flip happens in your browser and the photo stays on your device.

Does flipping lower the quality?

No pixels are changed, only moved. JPG and WebP files are re-compressed (92% quality by default); choose PNG to avoid any compression loss.
