PNGs are 512 or 1024 pixels on the longest side, with your background colour. The profile picture always has the background colour, because apps show transparent areas as black or white. The SVG keeps the text as text in a system font, so on another device it may use a similar font; for an exact copy use the PNG. Everything is made in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to make a logo

  1. Type your business name and, if you like, a short tagline.
  2. Choose a layout: icon left of the name, icon above it, text only, or a monogram with your initials in a badge.
  3. Pick an icon or badge shape, a font style and a colour palette, or set the icon, text and background colours yourself.
  4. Try the six ideas under the editor for quick alternatives, then fine-tune the letter spacing, sizes and capital letters.
  5. Download the SVG, a PNG at 512 or 1024 pixels, or the 800 × 800 profile picture.

How the logo is built

The logo is an SVG: vector shapes plus your name as text, so it scales to any size without blurring. The icon is sized from the height of your name and tagline and centred against them, and the PNGs are drawn from the same SVG at 512 or 1024 pixels on the longest side. A logo three times as wide as it is tall downloads at 1024 × 341 pixels. Fonts are the ones already on your device (sans-serif, serif, rounded and monospace styles), because web fonts can't be embedded this way.

Tips for a good logo

  • Keep it simple. One icon and your name are enough. Fine detail disappears when the logo is small.
  • Check it small. Your logo will often appear as a tiny browser-tab icon or a small profile circle. The round preview next to the download buttons shows how it looks there.
  • Use one or two colours plus a neutral like white, black or grey. The palettes keep text readable against the background.
  • Pick a readable font. Light and italic styles look elegant at large sizes but get hard to read small; Modern and Heavy hold up best.
  • Test it on dark and light backgrounds before you print it, and keep the tagline short.

Check the name before you use it

Before you print signs or cards, make sure your business name and logo aren't already someone else's trademark. Search your country's official trademark register and WIPO's free Global Brand Database, and do a web search for the name in your line of business. This tool doesn't give legal advice; if you plan to register a trademark, a trademark attorney can help.

Using your logo on social media

Most apps crop profile pictures to a circle, so the profile download puts your icon or monogram in the middle of an 800 × 800 square filled with your background colour. That's the size YouTube asks for, and it scales down cleanly for Instagram (320 × 320), LinkedIn and X (400 × 400) and WhatsApp (500 × 500). For banners, covers and posts, see the social media image sizes guide, which can also resize your PNG to fit each platform.

Frequently asked questions

Is this logo maker really free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no charge for the SVG, PNG or profile picture, and you can use what you make for your business. Palz Tools pays for the site with ads on the page.

Should I download SVG or PNG?

Use SVG for print and websites: it stays sharp at any size. Use PNG for social media, documents and apps that don't accept SVG. Tick Transparent background for a PNG you can place on coloured backgrounds or photos.

Why does my SVG look slightly different on another computer?

The SVG keeps your name as real text in a system font, like Georgia or Segoe UI. If another device doesn't have that font, it uses a similar one. The PNGs are pictures, so they always look like the preview. For an SVG that never changes, open it in a free editor such as Inkscape and convert the text to paths.

Can I use these icons in my logo?

Yes. The 30 icons are simple shapes like a leaf, a cup or a hexagon, drawn for this tool rather than copied from other brands. Because they're simple, other people can use the same shapes, so add your own name, colours and layout to make the logo yours.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The logo is built and the PNGs are drawn in your browser. Nothing you type leaves your device.
