RAR to ZIP Converter

Turn a RAR or 7z file into a ZIP that opens on any phone or computer without extra apps. The conversion runs on your device.

Converted on your device: the archive is never uploaded. Folders and file names are kept; links are skipped.

How to convert RAR to ZIP

  1. Choose a .rar or .7z file (up to 300 MB).
  2. Check the summary: number of files, unpacked size and format.
  3. Tap Convert to ZIP, then download the .zip file.

How it works

The archive is read with libarchive, an open-source library that has its own RAR, RAR5 and 7z readers, compiled to run in your browser. Each file is unpacked in memory and written into a standard ZIP. Files that are already compressed, such as JPG, MP4, PDF or DOCX, are stored as they are, because squeezing them again only takes time. Everything else is compressed with Deflate, the method every ZIP tool understands.

Example

A 270-byte 7z archive holding notes/readme.txt (20 bytes) and data/numbers.txt (10,000 bytes of repeated digits) becomes a 306-byte ZIP with the same two files in the same folders. The ZIP is slightly bigger because 7z packs text more tightly, but both files come out identical.

Good to know

  • Up to 5,000 files and 1 GB unpacked. Bigger archives are refused before anything is unpacked, which also protects you from "zip bomb" files.
  • File names are cleaned so nothing can be written outside the ZIP's own folders, and repeated names get a number, like report (2).pdf.
  • Links inside the archive are skipped; empty folders are kept.

Only need one or two files? Open RAR files lists everything inside and lets you save single files. To unpack a ZIP, use the ZIP extractor.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert RAR to ZIP?

Every computer and phone opens ZIP files on its own, while RAR and 7z often need an extra app (only recent versions of Windows 11 read them built in). Converting once means whoever you send it to can open it.

Is my archive uploaded?

No. The RAR is unpacked and the ZIP is written on your device, inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Will my files change?

No. Every file comes out byte for byte the same, in the same folders. Only the packaging changes. The ZIP may be a little larger than the RAR, because RAR and 7z usually compress better.

Can it convert password-protected or split RAR files?

No. Encrypted archives and multi-part sets (part1.rar, part2.rar…) aren't supported. Use WinRAR or 7-Zip for those.

Can I convert ZIP to RAR?

No. Creating RAR files needs WinRAR's proprietary compressor, and its licence doesn't allow other software to make RAR archives. ZIP opens everywhere, so it's usually the better choice anyway.
